February 2010 DanceAbility Teacher Certification

February 1 to 26, 2010, Montevideo, Uruguay.
The course will be taught by DanceAbility founder Alito Alessi in English, with Spanish translation.

DanceAbility Teacher Certification is for people who want to teach integrated groups in movement arts, or learn a model for facilitating communities that foster inclusive participation. Well-defined methods and techniques for teaching are presented, but there is not a stagnant set of rules. It is an ever-changing approach to designing creative movement practices that allow anybody and everybody's movement to emerge, thereby facilitating individual and group expression. You will learn how to work with mixed-abilities groups, how to adapt your teaching depending on participants' skills and abilities/disabilities, how to work with various sizes of groups, and how to prepare performances and choreographies.

Dates and Times: February 1st to 28th, 2010
10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. (6 hours of class, plus 1.5 hours lunch break. Exact schedule subject to change, but number of hours will remain the same.)
Place: Montevideo, Uruguay
Teacher: Alito Alessi, founder of DanceAbility and Artistic Director of DanceAbility Intl.
Language: English, with Spanish translation
Course fee: U.S. $1200. (This includes the DanceAbility Teacher's Manual by Alito Alessi with over 150 exercises, and a course diary with full details of day-by-day teachings and exercises.)

Extra Details for Registering: To apply, send a one-page letter of intention with your name to Florencia Martinelli and a reservation deposit of U.S. $50. This will be refunded to you 100% in case the application is not accepted (for example if the course is full). Other payment due dates: 50% of total is due by November 13, 2009. 100% is due by December 15, 2009.
Accommodation: Participants pay for their own accommodations and food. DanceAbility Uruguay will assist in finding accommodations that suit your budget. (One month's rent in Montevideo for single occupancy (with kitchen and bathroom) is approximately US $500 per month and for shared apartments, $275 per month and up.

En Ruedas del Amor“ intenta resignificar el simbolismo asignado a la silla de ruedas, replantear los arquetipos que rondan en el imaginario social entorno a la discapacidad, derribar los prejuicios existentes y ampliar la mirada a una nueva apertura artística desde la valorización de las diferentes capacidades.

El tema del amor un valor universal, dignifica a todas las personas más allá de sus diferencias, un derecho a defender que enriquece la vida haciéndola trascendente.

2010 International VSA arts Festival

VSA arts is seeking performing artists/groups with disabilities who are interested in performing at the International VSA arts Festival in Washington, D.C. in June, 2010.

From June 6-12, 2010, VSA arts - the premier arts and disability organization - will bring together artists, educators, researchers, and policy makers with disabilities from around the world for a multicultural celebration of the arts and arts education. The festival will feature visual, performing, literary, and media artists from all corners of the globe.

Call for 2009 VSA arts Apprentices at SILVERDOCS

VSA arts is collaborating with AFI-Discovery Channel SILVERDOCS Documentary Festival to launch the first VSA arts apprenticeship at the International Documentary Conference from June 15 - 20, 2009.

The VSA arts apprenticeship provides unique insight into the world of documentary filmmaking for emerging artists with disabilities, age 18 and above.

VSA arts is now accepting applications for this prestigious program.

DEADLINE FOR RECEIPT: Tuesday, June 2, 2009.

Selected VSA arts apprentices will have travel and accomodation covered by VSA arts and AFI, and receive mentoring by AFI Silver's Education Coordinator Matt Boratenski.
